What pet care costs across Canada
Pet care pricing is unusually opaque. Walkers and sitters rarely publish rates, boarding kennels quote per night without saying what is included, and groomers price by breed in ways that are hard to compare. The ranges below are the anchors Khench uses for each service, so you can walk into a booking knowing roughly what is fair.
Price by service
- Dog walking: $20–$45 per walk. Usually 30 to 60 minutes, one dog, on leash.
- Drop-in visits: $20–$45 per visit. Food, fresh water, a litter box or a quick garden break.
- Pet sitting: $40–$90 per booking. Company at home, typically several hours or overnight.
- Grooming and bathing: $50–$110. Bath, brush and coat care. Heavy matting costs more.
- Training: $60–$130 per session. Reward based, usually an hour.
- Yard cleanup: $25–$60 per visit. Scoop and tidy, priced by yard size and how long it has been.
- Pet transport: $35–$85 per trip. Local runs to the vet or groomer in a carrier.
- Small pet care: $20–$50. Rabbits, birds, reptiles and other small animals.
What moves the price
- How many animals: A second dog on the same walk costs less than two separate walks, but it is not free.
- Duration and frequency: A standing weekday walk is usually cheaper per visit than a one off.
- Handling needs: Reactive dogs, medication, puppies and seniors take more skill and time.
- Timing: Holidays, early mornings and last minute bookings all push rates up.
- Coat and size: Grooming a matted double coat is a different job from a short haired bath.
Why these are ranges, not quotes
Nobody can tell you the price of walking your specific dog in your specific neighbourhood without knowing the job. What a range does is tell you when a quote is out of line. If you are quoted well above the top of a range, ask what is driving it. Often it is real: medication, a difficult route, a holiday week. Sometimes it is not.
How bidding changes the number
On Khench you describe the job once and set your budget, then local providers send competing offers. You see several real prices for your actual job instead of guessing from a rate card. You choose on price, timing and the provider's record, and you can counter an offer before accepting.
Customers pay no Khench platform fee. Payment is authorised when you accept an offer and only captured once the work is marked complete, so money is not released before the job is done.
